Connecting Two Communities: A History of Montreal’s Chinatown
By Maka Ta, Terry Chiu and Diamond Yao
Documenting Montreal’s Chinatown on lower Saint Laurent Boulevard and its origins as a Jewish quarter, this zine tells the story of the longstanding affinity between the Jewish and Chinese communities of Montreal and the cultural exchange this neighbourhood precipitated. Through interviews and archival research, Connecting Two Communities explores the unlikely bond between these marginalized communities through their struggle against gentrification and displacement.
