KlezKabaret at the Museum

On August 28, we’re excited to be bringing KlezKanada’s legendary KlezKabaret out of the mountains and into the city at the Museum of Jewish Montreal!
From the eccentric to the beautiful, we welcome the gamut of performance possibilities. Here’s your chance to show off the new material you’ve been working on, be it musical, theatrical, literary, or beyond! A community performance space, this is a welcoming environment for all disciplines and all levels. Sign up in advance or on the spot. We welcome performances that range from the rehearsed to the impromptu. This is a great place to share your creations and to meet people who are creating! Come out and perform, see, and be seen. The cabaret will be hosted by KlezKanada faculty and special guests, buzzing from the week at KlezKanada’s Summer Retreat.

Tickets are $15 plus tax for general admission. Kindly note that seating is based on a first come, first served model. Our bar will be open with non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverage options available.
About Our Openers:
Yiddish troubadour Daniel Kahn is joined by his long-time co-conspirator, Berlin’s legendary klezmer multi-instrumentalist Christian Dawid for a program of new and old songs, smuggled over the borders of Yiddish, English, German and French. Drawing on their close collaboration in the cult band The Painted Bird, as well as the tradition of such bards as Mordechai Gebirtig, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Georges Brassens, Bert Brecht, and Bob Dylan, this is a crop of broken ballads, crooked klezmer, prison laments, revolutionary blues, and apocalyptic anthems.
This event is brought to you by MJAC (Montreal Jewish Arts Collaborative). MJAC is a partnership between the Museum of Jewish Montreal (MJM), KlezKanada, and the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, the Montreal Jewish Arts Collaborative aims to continue building a vibrant artistic ecosystem in our city by creating moments for intentional, creative gatherings, where ideas can be shared and new collaborations can grow.
