MJM for Kids: Rainbow Purim Playdate
Sun March 17, 2019 @ 16:00 - 17:00
Storybooks, puppets, and fun with Maggie & Naomi of Lost & Found Puppet Co., Fiona Ross, and Dot Dot Dot!
Purim is a time for fun costumes, outlandish plays (HAMAN, BOO!), delicious treats, and storytelling…and to celebrate difference, femme empowerment, speaking up for what is right, and having pride in who you want to be!
A beloved holiday by the Jewish queer community for all these reasons and more, we want to bring the first (as far as we know!) LGBTQ+ Purim celebration to Montreal for kids of all ages to have fun, celebrate, and meet some of Montreal’s fantastic creators and performers!
Costumes of all varieties are encouraged (but not necessary)! Fletchers café will be open, with coffee, tea, and hamentaschen for sale!
Get to know the Purim Playdate stars:
Lost & Found Puppet Co., originally created in 2007 in Vancouver. BC, is now based in Montréal, QC (since 2016). Members of the company consist of Maggie Winston and any person joining it for any given project. L&FPCo. produces original performances, facilitates community engaged art projects, and teaches puppetry and performance workshops for various ages and abilities. They are dedicated to promoting the art of puppetry as a unique and valued art form everyone can experience.
Fiona Ross is a queer teacher, theatre maker, and costume enthusiast who holds a very special place in her heart for reading stories to children. Her most recent child-reading credits include reading to her niece, the children she nannies, and teenagers who like to pretend they’re too cool for story time.
DOT DOT DOT is Montreal’s slice of cutie pie. Dot swirled her way into the city five years ago, and has made a polkadot splash with her unique blend of dance & clown, and sweetness & sass! Dot is thrilled to be part of the Rainbow Purim Playdate this Sunday.
Bring out the teacups and teddybears, twinkles and twirls .. with a twist. she will catch your eye with her smooth moves, then embarrass you when she trips over your chair. Dot is your baby cousin, your hot crush, and your strange uncle wrapped into a suspiciously adorable package.
As a member of the drag family House of Laureen, she performs regularly at Café Cleopatra. Her alter-ego, Meander, will be staring in his first ever solo show this summer at the Fringe Festival: Fairy Fails!
