DIY Empowerment: creative entrepreneurs talk-back

Tue June 11, 2019 @ 19:00

The Museum of Jewish Montreal and Citizen Vintage are thrilled to present

DIY Empowerment: creative entrepreneurs talk-back

In partnership with local artists, makers, and entrepreneurs, MissLanouch and invited women creatives Emily Gualtieri, Holly Gauthier-Frankel and Stephanie Coleman will share their personal experiences, discuss the empowering aspects of their work and share methods of building a fulfilling creative practice. Audience members at this event will have the opportunity to learn from both emerging and established artists and makers, and take away concrete skills for marketing their work and building community.

Miss Lanouch is this year’s muralist at the Museum of Jewish Montreal, and also the creative force behind Denina, a ready-to-wear fashion line distinguished by its streetwear style with a touch of glamor, vibrant colors, soft materials and versatile design.

Emily Gualtieri is a choreographer and dance artist working in both Montreal and Toronto. She has participated in and led artist residencies in Montreal, Toronto, Banff, Halifax, Massachusetts, Berlin and Italy. Emily is also the co-artistic director of contemporary dance company Parts+Labour_Danse which she and her partner David Albert-Toth founded in 2011. Their award-winning works have been presented nationally in festivals such as Dance: Made in Canada, Guelph Dance, Expanse Festival, Quartiers Danses, POP Montreal, VSLR, Dance Matters, and St. John Contemporary Dance Festival.

After finishing art school, Stephanie Coleman gained experience working in the domestic textile manufacturing industry and, in the summer of 2017, she opened Mezari Atelier & Boutique. In her atelier, Stephanie makes silkscreen printed home textiles and wallpapers while the boutique carries small batches and handmade items by local artists and designers including her own products. The store is known for its playful and imaginative displays, and on any given day you can catch Stephanie printing her products in the open concept space.

This event was made possible through the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation’s Grassroots Events program.
