Job Title: Food Programming Coordinator

Start Date: Early February, 2021

Compensation: $15.50-$16/hour (based on experience)

Commitment: 34-38 hours/week (based on experience)

The Museum of Jewish Montreal – an innovative place to connect with Montreal’s diverse Jewish life and heritage through new cultural experiences – is seeking a Food Programming Coordinator to help us build community, share Jewish heritage, and inspire young leadership through the lens of food. Specifically, the Food Programming Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate the Museum’s food programming, including:
    • Helping conceptualize and launch a new series of virtual cooking workshops and a virtual cookbook club
    • Developing relationships with community partners and Jewish food professionals for leading workshops and events
    • Overseeing event logistics
    • Managing event promotion
    • Facilitating community engagement during and following events
  • Coordinate the Museum’s summer Food Fellowship Program, including scheduling and coordinating guest lecturers, helping with food tour training, supervising student fellows, and providing food tour operations support.
  • Potentially co-lead the conceptualization, launch, and management of a food microgrants program for creative Jewish culinary exploration.
  • Potentially co-lead the development, launch, training, promotion, and operations for private group food workshop offerings.
  • Engage in community outreach, relationship-building, and leadership development around food for young individuals with culinary interests, creative ideas, and engagement potential.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest publications, chefs, thought leaders, and trends in the world of Jewish food.

The ideal candidate is a motivated food-loving individual who is passionate about building community through experiential education and empowering young leaders through new cultural experiences. Applicants should also have:

  • 1-3 years of experience in event management and logistics, ideally with cultural programming in a not-for-profit or community organization. Experience organizing food-related events or projects is an asset.
  • Curiosity, openness, and interest in learning about Jewish cuisine and the world of Jewish food professionals. Prior knowledge or experience with Jewish cuisine is an asset.
  • Academic background or interest in Food Studies, Jewish Studies, Education, Anthropology, History, Public History, Canadian Studies, Québec Studies, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Communications, or Museology and Curatorial Studies is an asset
  • Experience working in a cafe or restaurant is an asset, though not required.
  • Ability to work well with others: managing external partners, community members, and other staff to create exciting food programming, while also working closely with supervisors and a small Museum team.
  • Strong project management, delegation, and time management skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, as well as having strong decision-making skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in either French or English, with at least intermediate capabilities in the other langanguage.
  • Willingness to periodically work weekend or evening events.
