Dr. Sidney Katz: Family and Folk Music

Listen to this Story

Story

Dr. Sidney Katz, Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC, discusses his family history in Montreal and his experiences in Montreal’s folk music scene. Dr. Katz has a rich family history in Montreal, and his stories include his grandparent’s farm on St. Urbain, and the building of Poale Zedek synagogue. His love of folk music started at the age of 11, when he was taken to a Pete Seeger concert by his sister. Music became a very significant part of his life, and he was able to continue with music as his passion while he pursued his studies at McGill. One of his most memorable musical experiences was Expo 67, where he heard Leonard Cohen sing in the French Pavillion.
