The Museum of Jewish Montreal is excited to announce its open call for vitrine exhibition submissions for our 2026–2027 cycle. Vitrine exhibitions will be on view at our location at H. Fisher & Fils (4129 St. Laurent Boulevard). We invite individual artists, duos, and trios to apply.
About the Museum of Jewish Montreal (MJM)
Founded in 2010, MJM is an innovative place to connect with Montreal’s Jewish life and identity, share our diverse heritage, and create new cultural experiences. Through exhibitions, events, walking tours, research projects, and other arts and cultural programming, we offer an array of opportunities for our visitors of all backgrounds to explore and engage with contemporary art, culture, history, and community on their terms, with curiosity and openness.
About H. Fisher & Fils
A relic of Montreal’s shmata (Yiddish for “rag” or “garment) industry, H. Fisher & Fils was a high-grade sewing supply store active from 1935–2022. The store’s over 100 years of history is largely reflective of Jewish experiences and trends within the industry. Its founder, Harry Fisher, immigrated to Montreal from Eastern Europe in the early 20th century and quickly found work as a tailor. He would open the first iteration of “H. Fisher” in 1918 like many garment businesses across North America. While many would close in the 1980s, the shop’s longevity can be attributed to its specialty items, far-reaching clientele, and esteemed clients such as Cirque du Soleil, university design programs, and retail chains such as Maison Simons. The shop closed in 2022, around the passing of the shop’s late owner, Esther Fisher, the daughter-in-law of Harry Fisher. MJM has reactivated H. Fisher & Fils as a living heritage site, including its street-facing vitrine which showcases a rotation of contemporary art installations that respond to themes of immigration, shmata and textile industry history, Jewish life in Montreal, and more.
