Fun with Festive Favourites: A Hanukkah Cooking Demonstration with Bob Blumer
Wed November 24, 2021 @ 19:30 - 20:30
Click here to reserve your free ticket via JLive.
In the days leading up to Hanukkah, TV personality, cookbook author, and artist Bob Blumer will show us how to prepare waffle latkes and gravlax, straight from his recent cookbook, Flavorbomb. Join us as we revisit this classic Hanukkah dish with Bob’s whimsical spin! In his books, live demos and TV shows (Glutton for Punishment, Surreal Gourmet on the Food Network), Bob transforms ordinary ingredients into wow-inspiring dishes through simple cooking methods and unorthodox presentations that have become his culinary trademark.
Throughout the demonstration, food historian Lara Rabinovitch will be in conversation with our guest as they discuss Bob’s playful approach to cooking. Guests will also have a chance to submit questions to Bob during a Q&A session. Appetite for Books is offering a 10% discount on Bob’s newest title for in-store or online purchases to those who register.
We thank the support of the Nussia and Andre Aisenstadt Foundation, the Jewish Community Foundation, and Federation CJA for making this event possible.
About Our Guests:
Bob Blumer is a professional gastronaut with an adrenaline addiction. He has written seven acclaimed cookbooks, created and hosted three award-winning TV series that have aired in over 20 countries, and broken eight food-related Guinness World Records. Bob is an ambassador for Second Harvest in Toronto, and raises funds to help alleviate hunger for several other noble causes as well as Canada’s Love Food Hate Waste ambassador. He also makes personal appearances and presents his signature surreal meals around the globe. When he is not traveling for work or pleasure; which is most of the time; the transplanted Canadian cycles daily in the canyons near his home under the “D” of the Hollywood sign, doing his best to stay in shape for his next big adventure.
Lara Rabinovitch is a writer and specialist in Jewish food history. Her PhD covered Romanian immigration to New York City and Montreal, and she has since consulted for a variety of companies and organizations such as Google and the Skirball Cultural Center In Los Angeles, where she is Co-Curator of the upcoming national exhibition on the history and culture of Jewish delicatessen. She was a producer on the Sundance/IFC film “City of Gold,” about the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Jonathan Gold, and you can also find Lara’s writing in the Los Angeles Times, Saveur magazine, the Globe & Mail and other media outlets.
