Program: Microgrants for Creative or Cultural Exploration

Project Timeframe: February-June 2020

Microgrant Amount: $500-$1,500 (depending on project)

Application Deadline: November 18, 2019

The Museum of Jewish Montreal and Moishe House Montreal are excited to announce a new microgrants program for creative or cultural exploration, providing seed funding to help young adults bring their innovative project ideas to life. By offering this funding, we hope to give applicants the chance to pursue their interests and realize their ideas while encouraging intellectual curiosity and community-building. Grants will range from $500-$1,500 per project.

Applicants aged 18-35 of all backgrounds are invited to apply individually or in small groups for creative projects at any stage of development. Proposed projects should relate to Jewish culture or identity and be relatable or impactful, and applicants are invited to submit project applications that align with the Museum’s upcoming exhibition series, Inside/Out(optional).

Selected candidates will have several months to work on their projects, and will subsequently present their work through one event at the Museum of Jewish Montreal and one event at Moishe House. Event formats are flexible and creative, and candidates will receive planning support from Museum and Moishe House representatives.

Though not limited to the following, projects may take the form of:

  • An art project, to be presented as a one-night pop-up exhibition
  • A musical project, to be presented as a concert or workshop
  • A literary or theatre project, to be presented as a reading or performance
  • A food-related project, to be presented through a workshop or meal
  • A personal/family exploration project, to be presented in a format of choice
  • A research project, to be presented in a format of choice
  • A project focused on community-building through an experimental activity or experience

To apply, please submit a 1-2 paged application including a project description, the reasoning behind the project, and a breakdown of how the requested funds will be used. Applicants are also invited to submit additional materials (CV, portfolio, existing project material), though these are optional. Applications are due November 18 and should be emailed to Anya Kowalchuk at [email protected].
