A For Effort: Reading Things You Wrote For School

Thu November 7, 2019 @ 19:30 - 21:30

We’re excited to invite you to travel back in time with us through a storytelling event shining the spotlight on our past selves as schoolchildren.

Join us for an intimate evening of community storytelling, featuring a variety of school writings – compositions, projects, presentations, journal entries, creative assignments – read out-loud and ranging from the comedic and witty to the moving and meaningful.

This storytelling event is held in conjunction with our upcoming new walking tour, Inside the Yiddish School, which follows the stories of several Peretz Shule students through their oral histories and school compositions. More information on the tour to come soon!

Entrance for this event is pay what you can.

Do you have a favourite school assignment that you’d like to share for this event? Is there a composition, project, presentation, journal entry, poster, story or poem, multimedia assignment, or any other schoolwork that looking back on now you find hilarious, emotional, interesting, still relevant, or meaningful in any way? Do you have a school assignment that has a special story behind it, whether related to the class it was assigned for, the teacher who assigned it, the group that worked on it, or the period in your life that it reflected upon or contributed to?

If you have a schoolwork that you are interested in sharing at our upcoming storytelling event, please contact Aviv at aviv@imjm.ca with a brief description of your story. Stories should be approximately 5-10 minutes in length and can be told in English or French.
