If Not Leonard
Thu July 6 @ 19:00 - 22:00
Though Leonard Cohen [z”l] is easily Montreal’s most recognized Jewish representative at home and abroad, who could grace Montreal’s buildings, stamps, and daydreams instead of the Plateau poet?
Perhaps Samy Elmaghribi, the father of Jewish Moroccan music? Or Maimie Pinzer, the radical turn-of-the-century Montreal activist, sex worker, and writer? Or how about Léa Roback, a pioneer of Quebec feminism, a polyglot, and union organizer? Or maybe Ethel Stark, violinist and conductor and founder of Montreal Women’s Symphony Orchestra?
Come decide for yourselves at this soirée dedicated to some of the hottest Jewish Montrealer’s you’ve [n]ever heard of!
The Museum of Jewish Montreal and Mile End Chavurah are proud to present If Not Leonard! Joined by activist Jenn Clamen (repping Maimie), filmmaker Ari Cohen (repping Samy), author Ariela Freedman (repping Léa), and musician and conductor Liberté-Anne Lymberiou (repping Ethel), and hosted by our very own Chavurahnik, journalist Tamara Kramer, this is sure to be evening of Jewish opinions you don’t want to miss!
So come have a drink, learn about radical Jews, and vote for the next Messiah of Montreal – we can’t wait to see you there. First 75 tickets include a drink ticket, and snacks will be available all night!
Please note that the upper floors of our building are currently not accessible to visitors with limited mobility. This event will take place on the ground level.
